How to Grow Your Instagram in 2023

Instagram can be a fickle place. So many people I talk to find it overwhelming or daunting. It’s changed a lot in recent years, and you can no longer just put up a pretty picture and expect amazing results. But it doesn’t mean you can’t grow your account or business through Instagram it just needs a different approach.

To get the best success you need to be strategic and intentional.

To do this think about how are you going to use Instagram to achieve your business goals, but also how are you going to create and reward the community that follow you? I like to think of Instagram as a partnership in that people follow you, but in exchange, you need to give them something in return – great content.

What is Great Instagram Content?

Great Instagram content is content that rewards your community for following you. It’s content that entertains, educates, gives your audience identification, connection or something they aspire to. Often a mix of all these components.

We all want to sell or grow on Instagram, but your posts need to be a balance that mixes selling with community engagement and reward.

Create your brand. Whether you are a content creator or a business, your Instagram page should be a reflection of your brand and your values. I like to think of my page as an extension of my website or a beautiful business card that enhances what it is that I do.

My Top Instagram Tips

For about a year I had very little growth on my account and by switching up my strategy I have consistently started growing and creating new business from my account.

  • Put together a strategy for your content and plan how it going to help you achieve your goals and grow your community.
  • Be consistent – both in look and feel, but also in how often you post your content.
  • People buy from people – I feel very passionately that YOU need to be on your Instagram account if you are a small business owner.  Your face and personality help to build trust and authenticity.
  • Reels, reels, reels – I know they can feel daunting, but reels are still the best way to grow and reach non-followers.
  • Engage – social is called social for a reason, don’t dump and run, engage with your community, reply to comments and DMs, comment on others’ posts, and reply to others’ stories.
  • Remember some content will bomb and that’s ok, learn from it adapt and improve.
  • Use your insights – so often I see people ask when is the best time to post, should I use hashtags when all the information is right that in your insights tells you the answer that is right for your brand and account
  • Finally, have fun. There are so many great and creative things you can do on social media, let loose your imagination.
